BluAngle as the contraction of Blue and Angle is a textile design project conducted during the 2018’s Japanese Indigo summer workshop.
Introducing the production of an organic indigo vat, the instructor asked to each participants to produce any samples and works of art to be presented later in the year.
Meni worked on a formal male kimono design with the basic lines of a triangle dyed by Itajime Shibori technique.
The motif is the interpretation of the Uroko or scales patterns from fish, dragon or snake, famous among Samurai, thus worn as talisman to prevent harm.
The double lines seen on the triangle edges were created by deep dyeing with two different size of wood Board resulting to two tones : dark and light blue.
The kimono displayed first as the resulted artwork , was worn as a garment for the annual fashion show in association with an aviator cap in the same motif with metallic foil. Make up was inspired by the Darth Vader characters helmet of Star War depicting a Samurai in the Future.
Techniques : Wood board clamp resist dyeing (Itajime Shibori), metallic foiling, sewing.
Materials : Silk kimono fabric, Cotton fabric, Japanese Indigo.
